Frequently asked questions about USPA ratings

Thinking of becoming a skydiving instructor with USPA? Here are the answers to the most common questions about our Coach, AFF, Tandem, Static Line, IAD and Examiner training.

What is USPA?

USPA (United States Parachute Association) is an American association founded in 1946, with more than 41,000 members worldwide. Its system of licenses and ratings is used all over the world, except notably in Germany, Great Britain and Italy.

Does a USPA rating allow you to work in France?

No. USPA ratings do not allow you to work in France in any way, as France has its own specific system. They are, however, required to work at USPA drop zones (those in the United States and some others).

Where do I start?

With your USPA membership, valid for 12 months. Then you need the Coach rating, the first instructional level and a mandatory step before any instructor specialty (AFF, Tandem, Static Line or IAD).

What are the prerequisites to become a Coach?

Hold the USPA B license, have at least 100 jumps, hold a current membership, have assisted in a first jump course and pass the online pre-course exam.

How long do the courses last?

The Coach course lasts 3 days, the AFF Instructor course 5 to 9 days and the Tandem Instructor training 5 to 6 days, depending on weather conditions. The Static Line / IAD course lasts 3 days (1 to 1.5 days for a current instructor). The Examiner course lasts 3 days, entirely on the ground.

Are the courses taught in French?

Yes, our courses are taught in French.

Can I get my training funded?

Depending on your status and the training followed, you can request funding from the competent funder (OPCO, FAF, employer or other applicable scheme).

How do I renew a rating?

Renewal is annual, when your membership is renewed. It requires, among other things, a minimum number of jumps in the method (15 for Coach, AFF, Static Line / IAD and Tandem), having helped with a first jump course and having attended a renewal seminar. We organize these seminars twice a year, between November and March, and a videoconference is possible.

What are your prices?

Our prices are detailed on the Pricing page. USPA / UPT certification fees, aircraft slots and equipment rental are not included.

How do I register or find out the next dates?

Courses are organized on request, individually or in groups. Contact us at contact@airplayparachutisme.fr, stating the rating you are aiming for.
